Yes, I’m Adopted is a great book to introduce your preschooler to the concept of adoption. Written in a rhyming verse from the child’s point of view, it takes you through the entire adoption journey in a very short amount of time. The most special part of the book is the picture of the birth mother lovingly placing her baby in the adoptive mother’s arms. If you look carefully, you can see a tear coming from her eye, as well as the adoptive mother’s eyes. This would be a great springboard in discussing the fact that there is both joy and sadness in an adoption. Because this book is so short and simple, it is a very good first book about adoption for children ages 3-5.
